General Information

School hours are 0730 to 1200 (1145 for the younger class).   Please be on time as your child is in new surroundings and children do get very upset watching their new friends going home whilst they are waiting for you to come.  PLEASE NOTE THAT 0730 IS THE EARLIEST TIME THAT CHILDREN MAY BE DROPPED OFF, AS THERE IS NO SUPERVISION PRIOR TO THAT TIME.  Punctuality is an extremely important concept that children need to learn from you as parents.

If your child is tearful, it is better to leave with a positive “GOODBYE” as more often that not, he or she soon calms down, explores his new surroundings, makes a friend and is soon having fun.  You, as a parent, will only make things worse if you hang around the school.

Children must bring a suitcase/bag.  Please provide a sandwich ox, no plastic packets, with a snack, ensuring that there is something wholesome and nutritious.  We discourage sweets, peanuts, lollipops or chocolate and suggest a sandwich, fruit, biscuits, biltong, etc.

A hat, an apron and a hand towel – a face cloth is adequate – MUST be brought, with the child’s name clearly marked.  Please dress your child in sensible, safe clothing, ones they can manage themselves, especially shoes.  A pattern for the apron is attached.

Please DO NOT let your child bring toys to school.  They can easily be lost or broken and the point of coming to Nursery School, to learn to share, is lost.  The school will not be held responsible for any lost or damaged toys and books.

Should your child be “off colour” or in any way ill, please keep them at home as it is difficult and unfair for the teachers to attend to one sick child when they have other children to take care of.

If parents wish to speak to the teachers about their child, or have any queries, they are more than welcome to see them at break time (1015 to 1115) or when they pick up their children at the end of the day.  The best, however, is to make an appointment to see the teacher.  This guarantees that you have quality time with the teacher.

Please check your child’s suitcase EVERY day.  Often parents miss important notices because of this.  If toys etc are found in the suitcase, which do not belong to your child, please return them to the class teacher.  It is quite a common occurrence at this age!

Your child should attend school on a regular basis and at the correct times – this sets the pattern for their whole school career.

Please inform us of changes in address, telephone numbers and the like in case of emergencies.  If someone else is to collect your child, please notify the class teacher by phone or letter.  This is extremely important for the safety of your child.  The school will not be held responsible for the safety of your children if they are not informed of lift arrangements.

Encourage independence in your child – let him dress, feed him/herself, make choices etc.

Read to your child EVERY DAY if possible and make it a warm and happy experience.

There is pressure on the school for enrollment places.  Please inform the school of your intention of enrollment as soon as possible, especially for the Grade one classes.

Please note that school fees are payable IN FULL at the beginning of each term and that a FULL term’s notice is required, or fees in lieu thereof, if you wish to remove your child during a booked year.

COMMUNICATION BETWEEN TEACHERS AND PARENTS IS VERY IMPORTANT AND TEACHERS WILL ALWAYS BE HAPPY TO DISCUSS ANY MATTER RELATING TO YOUR CHILD WITH YOU.  IF YOU STILL FEEL THAT THE MATTER HAS NOT BEEN DEALT WITH TO YOUR SATISFACTION, THEN YOU MAY SEE THE HEADMASTER WHO HAS AN OPEN DOOR POLICY.
