Learning a foreign language can benefit very young learners in their linguistic, social and academic development. The awareness of another language and the ability to interact with others in that language, can increase a learner’s self confidence and encourage an interest in other cultures.
Students at Hellenic Primary School begin learning Greek in Grade one and tuition continues throughout their primary school levels in either the Basic or Extended learning course. The syllabus has been designed by the school Greek department and approved by the Greek Ministry of Education to develop young pupil’s social literacy in Greek.
The curriculum draws on the principles of interactive learning and the holistic approach. Language activities have been based on a range of methods and techniques intended to motivate young learners and engage them in the learning process of a foreign language.
